Naija Independence Day Celebration

The Johannesburg Business School Auditorium Became A Vibrant Ocean Of Green And White On October 11, 2025, As Consuj Proudly Hosted Its Annual Naija Day Fiesta To Mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. Over 450 Nigerian Students, Alumni, Professionals, Families, And Friends Of Nigeria Gathered From Early Afternoon Into The Night, Turning The Venue Into A True Home-Away-From-Home Celebration Of Heritage, Resilience, And Forward Momentum.

A Vibrant Tribute To Nigeria

This Year’s Theme - “leadership, Growth, And Excellence”, Echoed The Spirit Of Past Naija Days While Challenging The Current Generation In The Diaspora To Lead Purposefully, Grow Continuously, And Excel In Every Sphere. The Programme Opened With The Nigerian National Anthem Performed By A Powerful Student Choir, Followed By An Inspiring Welcome Address From Consuj President Chinedu Okafor, Who Reminded Everyone Of The Dual Responsibility We Carry: Thriving In South Africa While Contributing To Nigeria’s Brighter Future. Cultural Performances Took Centre Stage - From Electrifying Yoruba Talking-Drum Ensembles And Igbo Atilogwu Dancers To Hausa Kalangu Rhythms And A High-Energy Afro-Fusion Crew That Brought The Entire Audience To Their Feet. The Aroma Of Authentic Nigerian Cuisine Filled The Air: Two Styles Of Jollof Rice (Party And-Ofada), Pounded Yam With Egusi And Vegetable Soups, Spicy Suya, Moimoi, Puff-Puff, Plantain Chips, Zobo, Chapman, And Fresh Chin-Chin. These Shared Meals Did More Than Feed Bodies - They Nourished Community Spirit And Reminded Everyone Of Home.
"Being Away From Nigeria Doesn't Dim Our Pride. Events Like This Remind Us Of Our Roots And Unite Us As A Community - We Laugh, Dance, Eat, And Celebrate Together." - Adeola, 2nd Year Engineering Student.
